Anxiety is a feeling of worry, sometimes about a future event or for a reason you don’t know. It can cause undue stress on your mental health, and compound a variety of health problems. Anxiety can be treated.
We offer natural anxiety treatment here in our Toronto clinic. Below, a naturopath and counsellor will share how to deal with anxiety…
Anyone who is experimenting distress can come in to see a therapist, whether it’s from anxiety, or depression, or they are feeling stressed out and they don’t know how to manage it. I think right now, most people are coming in either knowing that they’ve got some sort of anxiety condition, or some level of depression, or are realizing that they’ve probably been through a lot and are probably experiencing trauma. Ideally people would be coming when they are just stressed out, long before it ever reaches that point, but, that’s not always the case, in fact, it rarely is. One person coming in with anxiety does not present the same as another person, and what’s going to work for one person is not going would to work for another. Some might people respond well to heavy evidence based work like CBT. Some people are really geared towards wanting practical solutions; a step-by-step process that will help. With other people, you try to use that process that with them, and they think you are just reading out of a textbook. These people want to be listened to. Most of what I’ve done that is different over time has to do with who is in front of me. Some people are going to respond better to mindfulness approaches, some people are going to a lot of venting time, some people are going to need an empathic listener. Some people are not going to want a whole lot of empathic listening, because they want those solutions, and to have someone empathically listen to them might feel like babying to them. I’m constantly shifting based on who is in front of me.
