A truly integrative approach to wellness depends partially on the treatment viewpoints of different health disciplines.
But it also depends on their unique strengths in diagnosing and understanding the basis for health and dis-ease in the human body.
Each health paradigm has something worthwhile to add to the mix:
- What we do for you (health issues we address)
- How we do it (our services)
- Who we are (our health team)
Medicine relies on fact-based knowledge gained mostly from research studies. Chiropractic Care and Massage Therapy have a structural basis, while Acupuncture and TCM are based in a time-honoured system of energy and interconnectivity.
Integrating these various paradigms into one treatment approach can be challenging but extraordinarily rewarding for both doctors and patients.
Rather than relying on one model for answers and the others only for treatment support, as many alternative clinics do, we believe that true integrative care starts with open communication and a willingness to consider multiple answers to the same question.
The care we provide at Mahaya is integrative because it begins with collaboration between your naturopathic doctor, chiropractor, massage therapist, acupuncturist, and the rest of our team.
We work together to create a treatment plan that combines the best of each discipline and to provide a framework for your understanding of your own health that will support you in whatever health or personal goals you choose to pursue with us.
Are your services covered by benefits or insurance?
Our services are covered by most extended benefit plans. Insurance is more on a case-by-case basis, but feel free to contact us to ask. Naturopathic visits aren’t covered by OHIP. They are, however, along with most of our services, HST-exempt.
If you’re unsure who you want to see, which is very common, it’s best to call us. We’re quite good at figuring out which service will be best for you and which practitioner would be the best match.
It’s 1.5 hours with a naturopathic doctor, or 1 hour with a chiropractor, osteopath or massage therapist.
Of course it depends on your issue and the type of treatment you receive, and also on your commitment to following the treatment protocol, as well as how quickly your body responds to the treatment, because some bodies respond faster than others. Some people see tremendous results from the first session, while others take a few sessions or more. But the nice thing is that we can often give you a better idea after your first session of what to expect, and you’ll get so many benefits from that session on its own that it’s worthwhile to even just start there.
Our receptionist is here to answer the phone from 10am-5pm Monday to Friday, and we have practitioners here during the following hours:
Monday To Saturday 8am-8pm
Absolutely. All of our practitioners are accepting new patients, and they each offer a few 15-minute consultations each week so you can meet them and ask whatever questions you may have. If you need help figuring out who to see, our receptionist has a real talent for figuring that out. She’s here from 10am-5pm on weekdays, or you can leave a message for her 24/7 and she’ll call you back the next weekday. To make an appointment, call 416-792-4400 or fill out the form in the sidebar.
Many of our patients come through word of mouth and we’re extremely grateful for that. We’re passionate about helping people improve their health, and if we’ve helped you enough to inspire you to refer someone else, that’s about the best compliment we can get. To make an appointment, call 416-792-4400 or fill out the form in the sidebar.
Your first visit will begin with a thorough review of your health history, including family history, medical records, diet and lifestyle habits, and any present symptoms or concerns. Compared to a visit with a convetional doctor, you will get much more time with your practitioner here. If you are seeing a Mahaya naturopathic doctor, the first appointment is usually 90 minutes. He or she may choose to do blood tests or other diagnostics in your first or second appointment in order to assess your health and provide the best treatment for your needs. If you are seeing one of our massage therapists, acupuncturists, or chiropractors, your first visit will usually be 60 minutes, and will end with a 30 to 45 minute therapeutic session that will set the stage for the future course of treatment.
Naturopathic Medicine is a multi-dimensional approach to health, based on centuries-old traditions of healing that have now been validated by modern science. You can read more about it here.
